Paints are a very essential part of our lives, aren’t they? But well, what if I were to tell you that paints have a huge contribution to climate change and pollution. But you must be like, “Neev, how in the world are we supposed to live in a cement building with no paint and barren walls.” I may or may not have the solution to your question. Lime Paints! These are a heck of a lot of good paints, both for us and our planet Earth. Ok, so first, I am going to tell you the harmful effects of our normal paints and then talk about lime paints.
Paints- By far, the most important environmental impact from paints is the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during the drying process after the coating is applied. Virtually everything but the solids in a typical paint formulation is released into the air. Once in the atmosphere, VOCs participate in the formation of ozone. In the presence of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sunlight, VOCs react with oxygen in the air to produce ozone, the most toxic component of the form of pollution commonly known as smog. Ozone attacks lung tissue, and is very injurious, even in very low concentrations. To prevent the formation of excessive levels of ozone, the VOC content of paint and its conditions of use are subject to regulation by federal, state, and local environmental agencies. Ok, now if you really don’t care about the environment and still wish to use paints, then think about it this way- Paints can give you headaches and cause a heck of a lot of other problems. Lime Paints- Well… Lime paints come from a natural source like flowers or soil, meaning no harmful chemicals or petroleum. Again, we can make them ourselves which means no industrial waste or a lot of pollution into the atmosphere. Again if this doesn’t interest you then they are non-toxic so even if you inhale them nothing would happen to you. So, this is from my side. I encourage you all to use lime paints instead of the chemical ones we use. Thanks for giving me time and reading this blog post. Be Safe and Have a Good One and I am out! Well, most of us have come across the term “Dead Rivers”, haven’t we? If you haven’t, then let me brief you a little. Dead rivers are when rivers become so gross and have such unhabitable surroundings that no fish or any life for that matter can survive in the dirty water. Any fishes living in the river instantly die. This is the Netravati river located in Karnataka. It is considered to be a holy river and people are supposed to take a dip in this river before entering a holy place called “Dharmasthala.” But I guess people just don’t understand the meaning of “dip” because I saw them shampooing and putting soap in the river. Making it dirty and gross, considering it is a holy river, how can people make this river dirty let alone all the other rivers. And what is ironic is what I saw a board outside saying “HOLY RIVER, KEEP CLEAN.”
Well, I guess it is enough but I hope we all should understand how important our rivers are and we should keep them clean. Thanks for giving me time and reading this blog post. Be Safe and Have a Good One and I am out! Sorry if any mistakes have occurred or I sound rude. 😉 How’s it going ya all? Well you might be scratching your head as to why in the world is the topic something like that, right? Well, the rivers ARE actually crying. If you live in a big city like say… Pune or Mumbai then I would suggest looking into the rivers. Most of the time you would look away in disgust and I don’t blame you cus that is actually the condition our rivers are in. I mean like come on… The rivers are always gross and full of plastic (Sometimes I feel there is more plastic in the rivers than the actual water itself, what do you think about it?). Should it be like this? Can we make the situation better? Just think about it. We have our future generations to inspire, for them to have clean water to drink, for them to have fun looking at the clean and rushing water. Not only for them but also for us youngsters to enjoy all of this, don’t we? To stop our beautiful and graceful rivers from turning into gutters we need to restrain ourselves from throwing ANYTHING into the rivers.
“The biggest threats to the existence of rivers are big dams, canal diversions, hydropower projects and pollution.” This is an article I found on the internet. It clearly says that the biggest threat to rivers are big dams, canal diversions. It says so because- a) Dams don’t allow the rivers to flow freely which makes the river water stagnant. What if someone trapped you in a cage and controlled you, didn’t allow you to roam freely? Exactly! Similar thing happens to the river. So I highly suggest not to build any dams. Let the flow be. b) Canal Diversions on the other hand alter natural habitat. Which means that the migratory fishes and birds lose their way since they follow the river and get confused on canal diversions. It’s like you are in a new place and someone tells you the wrong way to your house/destination. So a no no to canal diversions. c) They fragment the rivers reducing their soluble oxygen supply and making them dead rivers. d) Pollution is talked about everywhere, so many of us already know how harmful it is. Firstly it may get stuck in some animals resulting in death of them or animals may eat the plastic thinking that they are full eating food of no nutritional value and ultimately dying from starvation. Thanks for giving me time and reading this. Next topic’s hint is D_ _D R_ _V_R_. Be Safe and Have a Good One and I am out! Sorry if any mistakes have occured or I sound rude. 😉 -Neev Hey there! I am back with another environment blog!
Well, many of you may know that in India we just had Diwali and many of bursted a lot of firecrackers especially on Laxmi Poojan, didn't we? Well... just give it one tiny thought and think, is Diwali all about firecrackers? If you think deeply enough then you would realise, that in Diwali you are supposed to eat sweets, give gifts to one another, wear new clothes, spend time with your family, light lamps and have a ton of fun. Which means we should burst less (it would be cooler if you burst none, like I did) firecrackers. I mean sure, most of you may be like, "Firecrackers are fun." Sure, they are but on this occasion it is supposed to fun for all. And are firecrackers fun for our Earth? No! I remeber on the day of the Laxmi Poojan I felt like I was entering a giant cloud of smoke and loud noise. And bursting firecrackers is not only bad for our Earth but it also bothers asthamic people and all of our furry little animal friends. So please avoid bursting firecrackers ever henceforth. Sure, burst a few but make sure they don't emit much of smoke or are noisy. Be Safe and Have a Good One and I am out! Sorry if any mistakes have occured or I sound rude. 😉 -Neev Hey all how's it goin'? I am Neev your regular 12 year old with a dream. So what exactly is my dream? I want to make the world a better place to live for us and our next generation. Well, I am not the great guy or whatever to change the world, but the least I can do is spread out the word and implement personal changes. Now selfishly enough for the human kind we are... We are not saving the Earth, we are saving ourselves by stopping pollution and cleaning existing trash. Well, "Our Environment" and "Climate Change" are gonna be my topics. I will be posting each Sunday so keep a lookout. With that, bye and have a good one!
