Paints are a very essential part of our lives, aren’t they? But well, what if I were to tell you that paints have a huge contribution to climate change and pollution. But you must be like, “Neev, how in the world are we supposed to live in a cement building with no paint and barren walls.” I may or may not have the solution to your question. Lime Paints! These are a heck of a lot of good paints, both for us and our planet Earth. Ok, so first, I am going to tell you the harmful effects of our normal paints and then talk about lime paints.
Paints- By far, the most important environmental impact from paints is the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during the drying process after the coating is applied. Virtually everything but the solids in a typical paint formulation is released into the air. Once in the atmosphere, VOCs participate in the formation of ozone. In the presence of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sunlight, VOCs react with oxygen in the air to produce ozone, the most toxic component of the form of pollution commonly known as smog. Ozone attacks lung tissue, and is very injurious, even in very low concentrations. To prevent the formation of excessive levels of ozone, the VOC content of paint and its conditions of use are subject to regulation by federal, state, and local environmental agencies. Ok, now if you really don’t care about the environment and still wish to use paints, then think about it this way- Paints can give you headaches and cause a heck of a lot of other problems. Lime Paints- Well… Lime paints come from a natural source like flowers or soil, meaning no harmful chemicals or petroleum. Again, we can make them ourselves which means no industrial waste or a lot of pollution into the atmosphere. Again if this doesn’t interest you then they are non-toxic so even if you inhale them nothing would happen to you. So, this is from my side. I encourage you all to use lime paints instead of the chemical ones we use. Thanks for giving me time and reading this blog post. Be Safe and Have a Good One and I am out! Sorry if any mistakes have occurred or I sound rude. 😉
